The Edison-Approach: Mistake Driven-Learning
I often encourage, admonish, and demand that the learners in my courses make mistakes. "Please, make all the mistakes you can while you are engaged in learning in this classroom." or "Get the errors out of the way so you can master the final exam" or "Learning how NOT to do something is, in fact, learning."
All to often educators focus primarily on the correct answer and not the process of learning. Amazing phenomena lurk in the real of mistakes. Just ask Edison as his infamous 99+ attempts to invent a functional light bulb. In honor of this dedicated, and determined genius I will call this pedagogy, "THE EDISON APPROACH".
Here's an article on MISTAKEN-DRIVEN LEARNING that theorizes 7 Reason why educators should use this approach.
